Google's Built-In 'Ask for Reviews' QR Code vs an NFC Review Card: Which Should a Dubai Business Use?

STSmaacaad Team · 6 Oct 2026 · 3 min read

Google now gives every business a free way to make a review QR code, so why pay for an NFC review card? It is a fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on how you plan to use it. This guide compares the two for Google review QR code Dubai businesses.

What Google added

Tech Outlook reported on 5 March 2025 that Google introduced a QR code tool on Business Profile that sends customers straight to the review form. Business owners find it on desktop by opening their Business Profile and choosing "Ask for reviews", or from their review page by tapping "Get more reviews". Owners can print the code, add it to a website or put it in an email signature.

That is genuinely useful and free. If you only need a QR code on a printed A5 sheet by the door, you can stop here.

Where a free QR code on paper falls short

  • It is only a QR code. The customer must open the camera, aim, and tap the link. Many people hesitate, especially older customers or those who have never scanned one.
  • Paper wears out. A printed sheet at a busy counter gets wet, creased and ignored. You must reprint it yourself.
  • It does not stand out. A loose sheet looks like every other notice on the wall.

What an NFC card adds

An NFC review card works two ways. A customer with an NFC-enabled phone taps the card and the Google review page opens. Others scan the QR printed on the same card. You get a second route for the same link, in a durable PVC card that you hand over or place on the table.

  • Tap or scan: two options for the customer.
  • Durable: it survives a busy counter far better than a printed sheet.
  • Looks deliberate: a card in a stand reads as an invitation rather than a notice.

A simple way to decide

  • Low footfall, one location, tight budget: print Google's QR and test it for a month.
  • Busy counter, restaurant, salon, clinic: the tap-or-scan card and a stand are easier for customers and last longer.
  • Several tables or rooms: one card per spot, so staff never have to carry a phone around.

Smaacaad options

The Google Review NFC Card with QR is AED 29 per piece at the time of writing. If you want something that stands on the counter, the Google Review NFC Stand with QR is AED 59 per piece. Both prices come from our live product list, so check the product page before you order.

Whichever you choose, stay inside the rules

Ask every customer, not only the happy ones, and do not offer discounts or gifts for a review. Google treats that as fake engagement. The point of a card is to make an honest review easy, not to shape what the review says.

Questions owners ask

  • Can I use both? Yes. Both link to the same Google review page, so you can keep Google's printed QR at the door and a card or stand at the till.
  • How do I know which one works? Ask staff to note how often customers mention reviews, and watch how many new reviews arrive per week after each change. Change one thing at a time.
  • Do I need a new link for a card? No. Use your existing Google review link; a card simply points to it.
