One of the Best-Known NFC Card Brands Stopped Listing Its Prices. Here's What That Should Tell You Before You Buy One.

STSmaacaad Team · 27 Sep 2026 · 3 min read

If you have researched NFC business cards for more than five minutes, you have probably come across Popl. It is one of the most recognised names in the category — the kind of brand that shows up on "best NFC card" roundups and comparison lists everywhere. So it is worth paying attention to how the company is repositioning itself in 2026.

Popl's own site now leads with an enterprise offer: badge scanning, lead enrichment and CRM sync for teams working trade-show booths, aimed squarely at large sales organisations. Its pricing page for that core product does not list a single number. Instead, its FAQ says plainly: "It's important for us to make sure that Popl is the right solution for your needs…because of that, we quote pricing over a meeting instead of publishing it on our website."

The simple, individual digital-card product that first made Popl popular is still there — but it is now framed as an afterthought for solo users, tucked below the enterprise pitch: "Only need Popl for yourself? (not a team) We offer a simple digital business card app designed perfectly for solo entrepreneurs." And the physical NFC card itself has moved to third-party marketplace listings, one of which is titled, tellingly, "Authentic Patented Popl Card™ (Avoid Fake Knockoffs)" — a sign that counterfeit versions of a well-known card have become common enough that the company felt it had to say so on the product title.

Why this is worth noticing if you are not buying from Popl

None of this makes Popl a bad company — enterprise lead capture is a real, large market, and companies are allowed to chase it. But the shift is a useful case study for any UAE business owner comparing NFC card options right now, because it surfaces three questions that are easy to skip past when a card looks shiny in a product photo:

  • Can you see the actual price before you talk to anyone? A card that requires a sales call to learn the cost is usually being priced for a business, not for a single shop owner or freelancer who just wants a working card by next week.
  • Is the card still the company's main product, or a side offering? When a vendor's real business shifts elsewhere, support quality and update speed for the smaller product tend to slip first.
  • How easy would it be to buy a counterfeit by mistake? If the maker itself is warning about fake versions of its own card on the listing you would buy from, that is a real cost of going through a marketplace reseller rather than the company directly.

For a UAE business, there is a fourth practical question on top of those three: does the price you see actually work in AED, and can someone reach a real person on WhatsApp if the card needs to be reprogrammed or replaced? A lot of the friction with international NFC platforms shows up exactly there — converted pricing, support in a different time zone, and shipping timelines that were never built around Gulf delivery.

Smaacaad's NFC Business Cards are priced openly in AED on the product page itself, no sales call required, and each card is programmed and shipped locally. For a business that wants the card to do double duty — a working profile link plus a QR fallback for anyone whose phone does not tap — the All-in-One NFC Business Profile Card covers both without needing to compare a separate app subscription.

The broader point stands regardless of which card you end up choosing: in a market where a leading brand has moved on to bigger enterprise contracts, transparent pricing and a reachable support line from the company that actually made your card are no longer nice-to-haves. They are the two things worth confirming before you pay for any NFC card at all.
