How to Exchange Contacts at GITEX 2026: A Dubai Visitor's Checklist (and Where a Digital Card Fits)
GITEX Global 2026 runs from 7 to 11 December at Expo City Dubai, according to the organiser's official site. If you are visiting rather than exhibiting, the real work starts after the hall closes: turning five days of handshakes into follow-ups. The best way to exchange contacts at GITEX is to plan it before you arrive. This guide covers what to prepare, what to avoid, and where a digital card fits.
Why the follow-up fails more often than the meeting
At a large event you will talk to dozens of people. By day three, names blur. Paper cards get a scribbled note, or none, and end up in a jacket pocket. The usual failure is not a missing introduction; it is no usable record of who said what.
Before you go: a four-point checklist
- Decide your one-line introduction. Name, company, what you do, in a sentence a stranger remembers.
- Decide what the other person should land on. Your WhatsApp, your company site, or a profile with all of it. Pick one primary action.
- Charge your phone and carry a power bank. A digital card needs the other person's phone, not yours, but you will use your own phone to look people up and note follow-ups.
- Bring a backup. Not every phone reads NFC, so a printed QR code on the same card matters. Anyone can scan it with the camera.
Exchanging contacts in the moment
The fastest exchange is the one the other person does not have to type. A tap or scan opens your profile on their phone, where they can save your details. That removes the awkward step of spelling an email address over hall noise.
Then close the loop yourself within a minute: open your notes and write one line (name, topic, promised action). Do this before you walk to the next stand. It is a small habit and the single biggest difference between a useful event and a pile of cards.
After GITEX: the 48-hour rule
- Send a short message within two days, while they still remember you.
- Mention the specific thing you discussed, not a generic "nice to meet you".
- Offer one next step: a call, a quote, a sample.
Where a Smaacaad card fits
If you do not yet have a digital card, a simple option is the MyInfo.ae Digital Business Card with QR at AED 39 per card (price checked on our live product list). It opens your MyInfo.ae profile with a tap, and the printed QR covers phones that do not read NFC. Because the profile is online, you can correct a phone number or title without reprinting. If you want a more complete business-card setup, see NFC Business Cards at AED 79 per card.
To be honest about limits: a card does not replace a conversation, and it will not make a weak pitch strong. It removes friction. If your profile is out of date or your follow-up is late, no card helps. Order early enough to test it on a few different phones before the event.
Quick pre-event test
- Tap the card on an iPhone and an Android phone.
- Scan the QR with a plain camera app.
- Check that the profile loads on mobile data, not only on Wi-Fi.
- Make sure your name, title and WhatsApp number are correct.
Event networking is a follow-up discipline. Prepare the tools, take a note after each conversation, and send the message while it still counts.
