Emirates and Dubai Chambers Signed an SME Expansion Deal Today — Here's the One Thing That Deal Doesn't Fix for You

STSmaacaad Team · 28 Sep 2026 · 3 min read

On September 28, 2026, Emirates and Dubai Chambers signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed squarely at pushing Dubai's small and medium enterprises onto the international stage. The deal was signed by Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, and Khalid AlJarwan, Executive Vice President of Commercial and Corporate Services at Dubai Chambers, according to the UAE's Media Office.

The substance of it is logistics and access, not marketing talk. Dubai Chamber members get preferential entry to Emirates SkyCargo's air freight network, covering more than 150 destinations, plus Emirates Courier Express for door-to-door shipping — useful for an SME that suddenly needs to get product samples or small-batch orders to an overseas buyer fast. Members also get a 2,000-point welcome bonus into Emirates Business Rewards, the airline's SME travel program, and access to joint workshops and cargo advisory sessions. Kazim called SMEs "important drivers of innovation and growth in Dubai's vibrant economy"; AlJarwan tied the partnership to the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 goal of strengthening the emirate's foreign trade.

What this is actually solving

Getting a product or service out of the UAE and in front of a foreign buyer has always had two separate costs: the cost of moving goods, and the cost of getting a business owner in the same room as the right person, whether that's a trade show in Riyadh, a supplier meeting in Shenzhen, or a distributor pitch in London. This MoU is squarely aimed at the first cost — cheaper, easier freight and courier shipping, plus travel perks that make the flights themselves less painful for a small team. That's a real, useful thing for a Dubai SME weighing whether an overseas trade mission is worth the spend.

The part the MoU doesn't touch

What it doesn't do anything about is the five seconds after you've actually landed the meeting: the moment you're standing in front of a buyer, distributor, or freight partner you've never met, in a market where you don't know which app they use, and you need them to walk away with your real contact details — not a name badge, not a business card that gets shuffled into a stack of forty others and thrown out at the hotel.

A paper card works fine domestically, where everyone you hand it to is a WhatsApp message or a Google search away. It works far worse the moment you're at GITEX-style events abroad, an overseas Chamber-organized delegation, or a supplier's factory floor in a market that doesn't run on the same apps UAE businesses default to — no common social platform to search a name on, a language barrier on a printed card, or simply no reliable way for that contact to reach back out once they're at their own desk again.

That's the specific gap a tap-or-scan card closes. Smaacaad's NFC Business Cards open a full digital profile — name, role, phone, WhatsApp, email, company site, socials, with a one-tap Save Contact button — on any phone that taps it, Android or iPhone, no app install and no shared platform required on either side. For SMEs sending a rep to their first international trade mission on the back of this MoU, that matters more than it sounds: it works identically whether the person on the other end is in Dubai, Shenzhen, or Nairobi, because it's just a webpage, not a platform both sides need to already be on. The MyInfo.ae Digital Business Card with QR covers the same ground at a lower entry price and adds a printed QR fallback, useful when a contact would rather scan than tap.

The practical takeaway

If this MoU gets a Dubai SME's freight and travel costs down enough to justify that first overseas trade show, the cost-benefit of what's in your pocket when you get there is worth the same five minutes of thought. The shipping and the flight are the easy half of reaching a new market. What a buyer actually does with the contact you hand them — whether it survives the flight home — is the half that's still on you.
