Facebook Recommendations Suspended on Many Business Pages in January 2026: What a Dubai Business Should Check
If your Dubai shop, salon or restaurant relies on a Facebook page, one thing matters more than the follower count: whether your Facebook recommendations are switched on and visible. A January 2026 report shows that, for some business pages, they can disappear overnight.
What was reported in January 2026
US wine-industry writer Sean P. Sullivan reported on 18 January 2026 that around 9 January Facebook suspended page recommendations on many business pages, including wineries, breweries and distilleries. Owners received a notice saying the page had violated community standards, without specifics and with no way to appeal. According to the same post, Facebook added a review-request option on 17 January, some pages were restored and then suspended again, and Facebook had not publicly addressed the issue in the week after the suspensions. This is one writer's account of what happened to pages in his industry, not a Meta announcement, and we have not seen Meta confirm the scale. Treat it as a warning, not a rule.
Facebook has used a yes/no "recommend" model rather than a 1-to-5 star rating on many business pages for some years, so a page's reputation can hang on written recommendations from real customers.
Why this matters for a UAE business
- Your social proof lives on a platform you do not control. If recommendations are suspended, the evidence you collected stops showing.
- Customers still check Facebook. Many UAE shoppers look at a business's Facebook page alongside Google Maps before visiting.
- Fresh recommendations help you recover. A page with steady new activity is easier to rebuild than one that has been quiet for a year.
A practical checklist
- Open your page settings and check that Recommendations is enabled and the Reviews tab is showing. Some page categories and templates do not support it.
- Set the age restriction deliberately before you request a review of a suspension. The report notes that adding one removes the page from any groups it belongs to.
- If recommendations are suspended, use the review-request option the report describes rather than recreating the page.
- Never offer discounts or freebies in return for recommendations. Platforms increasingly act against incentivised reviews.
- Keep your best reviews on more than one platform, so a Facebook problem does not erase everything. Google reviews are the obvious second home.
Making it easy for happy customers to recommend you
The simplest way to collect Facebook recommendations is to ask at the moment of a good experience, when the customer is still in your shop. A tap-and-scan card on the counter removes the step of searching for your page. The Facebook NFC card with QR code (AED 29) opens your Facebook page when a customer taps it with their phone or scans the QR code, so they land where they can follow you and leave a recommendation. For a busy counter or restaurant table, the Facebook NFC stand with QR (AED 59) keeps the link in view all day.
To be clear about what a card does: it makes your page quick to reach. It does not guarantee recommendations, and it cannot stop Facebook suspending a feature. It simply removes friction while you build a habit of asking.
The takeaway
Check your Facebook page's Recommendations setting this week, keep asking real customers, and do not let a single platform hold all your reputation. Point your Facebook link to a card or stand, and keep your Google reviews growing alongside it.
