Instagram Now Lets Customers Add Tagged Posts to Their Grid: What a Dubai Business Should Do
Customers who tag your business in an Instagram post are doing free marketing for you. Until now that post lived only on their profile. According to The Gain Blog's October 2026 social media roundup, Instagram now lets users add posts they are tagged in to their own profile grid. For a Dubai shop, café or salon, this matters for Instagram tagged posts: it changes what a visitor sees when they land on your tagged customers' profiles, and it makes the follow-and-tag moment worth planning.
What Instagram changed
The Gain Blog (page dated 1 October 2026), citing Social Media Today, lists the update as “Instagram Lets Users Add Tagged Posts to Their Profile Grids”. Based on that page:
- A tagged user sees an “Add to grid” option on the post.
- Once added, the post appears in their grid with a tag icon in the upper-right corner of the thumbnail.
- The page gives no rollout dates, regions or eligibility details, so check whether the option has reached your own account before building a plan around it.
We could only confirm this from that one roundup, not from an Instagram announcement, so treat the details as reported rather than official.
Why a Dubai business should care
Think about a customer who posts a photo of your coffee, haircut or new shopfront and tags you. If they choose to add it to their grid, that post sits on their main profile, where their own friends and followers browse. Your business name, linked through the tag, is in front of people who already trust that customer. You cannot force anyone to add a post, but you can make tagging easy and give people a reason to do it.
A simple tag-and-follow routine for your counter
- Make the account easy to find. Put your exact handle on the counter, receipt or table card. A misspelt handle means the tag goes to the wrong account.
- Ask for a tag, not a favour. A friendly line such as “Tag us if you share a photo” is enough. Do not offer discounts for tags or follows without checking the platform's rules, and in the UAE check the rules on promotions too.
- Give them something worth photographing. A well-lit corner, a plated dish, a before-and-after chair. People tag what looks good.
- Reshare and say thanks. Reply to tagged posts. Customers who feel noticed tag again.
- Check your tagged tab weekly. Make sure the tagged posts that appear next to your name are ones you are happy with.
Where a tap card fits, honestly
An NFC card does not cause anyone to tag you or to add a post to their grid. That is the customer's choice. What it does is remove the friction of the step before: finding and following your account. A customer taps the card or scans the QR code and lands directly on your Instagram profile, instead of searching for your name and picking the wrong similar account. A follower is also a person who is likelier to see and tag your future posts.
Smaacaad's Instagram NFC business card with QR code is AED 29 per piece, small enough to hand across a counter or slip into a bag. For a fixed spot, the Instagram NFC stand with QR code is AED 59 per piece and stays on the till or table. Prices are those listed on our product pages when this post was published.
Before you rely on it
- Test the card on both an iPhone and an Android phone, and keep the QR code visible as a backup.
- Confirm your Instagram profile is a business or creator account so tagged posts and insights behave as you expect.
- Measure results simply: note your follower count and the number of tagged posts in a week before and after you start.
Social platforms change features often, and rollouts vary by account. The principle stays the same: make it easy for happy customers to find you, and make your tagged posts something you are proud of.
