UAE Music Licensing Fee for Cafés and Restaurants From December 2026: What Dubai Venue Owners Should Do Now

STSmaacaad Team · 11 Oct 2026 · 2 min read

If you run a café or restaurant, the UAE music licensing fee for businesses is the next cost to plan for. According to Khaleej Times (11 August 2026), the Ministry of Economy and Tourism has announced annual fees for commercial music use in restaurants, cafés, hotels and malls, with collection set to begin in December 2026.

What has been announced

These are the points the Khaleej Times report states:

  • Who collects: two Ministry-licensed bodies, the Emirates Music Rights Association and Music Nation.
  • What you pay: fee brackets depend on the type of use and the size of the business. The article gives no specific amounts, so we cannot quote a figure.
  • Who is exempt: educational and academic institutions, government entities, national events, and personal, non-commercial celebrations. The Ministry may exclude other categories later.
  • When: collection begins in December 2026.

What a venue owner should do now

Because the amounts are not published in the article, the sensible steps are practical ones rather than panic:

  • Check which of the two bodies will contact your business and what bracket your venue falls into once the details are released.
  • List where you play music today: dining room, terrace, waiting area, delivery-pickup counter. Fees depend on use and size, so know your own picture before you are asked.
  • Decide whether music is worth the new cost in every area, or only in the busiest ones.
  • Keep this as a line in your 2027 budget, so it does not surprise you in the first month.

Protecting your margin without cutting the experience

A new fixed cost means each customer visit needs to count a little more. Two low-cost habits help any dining venue, and neither depends on the music rules:

  • Ask happy guests for a Google review. Reviews are one of the first things people check before choosing where to eat. A tap-to-review card on the table or counter makes the ask easy for staff and guests. Our Google review NFC card with QR is AED 29 and works with a tap or a QR scan.
  • Keep your menu current without reprinting. If prices move to cover new costs, a printed menu means a reprint. Our digital menu card (AED 29) is powered by dm-only.com, which lets you edit the menu live from your phone.

To be clear, neither product offsets a licence fee by itself. They are simply inexpensive tools that help you keep guests coming back and keep your menu accurate while costs shift.

Our honest take

We sell review cards and digital menus, not music licences, so treat this as a heads-up rather than legal advice. Read the Ministry's official notice when the fee schedule is published, and confirm your obligations with the licensed collection bodies. We will not guess at amounts that have not been released.
