Dubai Hotel Occupancy Reached 66% in August 2026: What Independent Hotels and Restaurants Should Do Before the Winter Season

STSmaacaad Team · 27 Oct 2026 · 3 min read

Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism reported about 869,000 international overnight visitors in August 2026, the highest monthly figure since February, according to Gulf News. Hotel occupancy was 66% in August, about 89% of the level recorded in August 2025, and up from 36% in March. For January to August the city recorded 6.97 million international visitors and 21.61 million occupied room nights, with nearly 149,000 hotel rooms at the end of August.

The same report gives the main source markets for the period: Western Europe 20%, South Asia 17%, the GCC 16%, and CIS and Eastern Europe 14%. A consultant, Cavendish Maxwell, quoted separately, expects a recovery from the fourth quarter; that is a consultant’s forecast, not an official figure, and we treat it that way.

What the numbers mean for a small hotel or restaurant

Recovery brings visitors who do not know your area. They choose by Google rating, review count and how recent the reviews are. A property with 200 reviews, the latest from last winter, looks less active than one with 80 reviews from the past two months. That is the practical meaning of these numbers: recent reviews matter more when more people are choosing.

A review plan that works for Dubai guests

  • Ask at the right moment. At check-out, or when the bill is paid, the guest is at the desk and relaxed. A message three days later gets far fewer replies.
  • Make it one tap. A Google Review NFC Stand with QR on the front desk lets a guest tap or scan and land on your review page. It works on iPhone and Android, and the QR is the fallback.
  • Match the platform to your guests. If Booking.com brings most of your bookings, the Booking.com Review NFC Stand with QR can sit beside it. Be careful here: Booking.com collects reviews through its own post-stay invitations, as we explain in our Booking.com guide, so check what your listing allows before you promote a link.
  • Never reward a review. Google and TripAdvisor both ban incentivised reviews. See our post on TripAdvisor and incentivised reviews.

Fix the small things guests will mention

Read your last 20 reviews and list every repeated complaint: slow check-in, unclear parking, noise, breakfast times. Fix the ones you can before the busy season, and reply publicly to each review so future guests see you act on feedback. Our hotel review card guide covers where to place the prompt and how to brief the front desk.

For restaurants in hotels and tourist areas

Visitors read menus on their phones. If you change dishes for the season, a live menu avoids confusion at the table. The Digital Menu Card opens your menu on dm-only.com, and you update it from your phone.

What not to do

  • Do not buy reviews or use review services that promise a rating. The Dubai Police action on fake Google Maps reviews is covered in this post.
  • Do not rely on one big push. Eight to ten steady reviews a month look more natural than 60 in a week.
