WhatsApp QR Codes and Short Links: How a Dubai Business Can Start a Chat Without Customers Typing a Number

STSmaacaad Team · 6 Oct 2026 · 3 min read

In Dubai, customers often prefer to message a business on WhatsApp rather than call. The friction is saving your number and typing the first message. A WhatsApp QR code removes both steps. This guide explains what the official tools do and how to use them in a physical shop.

What Meta's tools allow

Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform documentation describes QR codes and short links that let a customer start a chat by scanning the code with their phone camera or opening the link, without typing a phone number. A QR code scan can start a chat with a pre-filled message of up to 140 characters. According to the documentation, a single business phone number can be associated with up to 2,000 QR codes and short links, and short links let you edit or delete the pre-filled message later.

You can create them in the Business Manager under Phone numbers and Message Links, or through the API. If you use the free WhatsApp Business app, check what link and QR options your version offers.

Write a pre-filled message that gets answered

  • Be specific: "Hi, I would like to book a table for 4 tonight" works better than "Hi".
  • One purpose per code: a code for bookings, another for quotes, another for order status.
  • Stay inside the limit: 140 characters is short, so keep it to one sentence.

Why put the link on a card

A QR code on a shop window is easy to miss, and a number written on a leaflet gets typed wrongly. An NFC chat card carries your WhatsApp link behind a tap, with a QR printed on it as a backup. A customer taps the card with an NFC phone or scans the QR, and WhatsApp opens with your chat ready.

It is useful anywhere customers have questions but do not want to queue: a salon reception, a car workshop, a clinic desk, a market stall, a delivery bag.

Smaacaad options

The WhatsApp NFC Chat Card with QR is AED 29 per piece and the WhatsApp NFC Chat Stand with QR is AED 59 per piece at the time of writing. Check the product pages for current prices.

Be ready to reply

The card is only as good as your response time. If customers start a chat and wait a day, they will not use it twice. Set an opening-hours message, assign one person to check chats, and keep replies short.

Where else to place the link

  • On delivery bags and invoices, so customers can ask about an order.
  • On your Google Business Profile and Instagram bio.
  • On the shop window, for questions outside opening hours; combine with an auto-reply.

Remember that customers share their number when they message you, so use it only for the conversation they started and follow the applicable data-protection and WhatsApp Business policies.

A quick weekly check

Once a week, open your chats and count how many began from the card or QR. If the number is low, move the card closer to the point where customers wait, and reword the pre-filled message so it answers a question they already have. Small changes in placement and wording often matter more than the card itself.
