Dubai Municipality Introduces “Model Salon” Status: What a Dubai Salon Owner Should Know
On 9 October 2026 Dubai Standard reported that Dubai Municipality has introduced a new Model Salon Dubai status. If you run a salon, barbershop or spa in Dubai, here is what the report says, what it leaves out, and the parts of it you can start working on this week.
What the Model Salon status is
According to the Dubai Standard report, the status is a recognition that goes beyond basic health and safety rules. It puts greater emphasis on self-monitoring, environmental sustainability and customer satisfaction. To qualify, a salon must first hold an “A” inspection rating from Dubai Municipality, which the report calls the highest rating available. An additional assessment by the relevant authorities then decides whether the salon meets the Model Salon criteria.
The report groups the criteria into three areas:
- Service quality: staff training, professional conduct, employee qualifications and certifications, and consultations before treatments.
- A safe and healthy environment: cleanliness, equipment sterilisation, indoor air quality, lighting, suitable facilities, and well-organised treatment and waiting areas.
- Sustainability: sustainable materials, waste management and recycling programmes.
What the report does not say
We read one trade report, not the Municipality's own notice. The report does not describe an application process, does not say whether participation is voluntary or required, and does not explain how “customer satisfaction” is measured. It also does not mention Google reviews or any public star rating. Check with Dubai Municipality before assuming any specific requirement.
Why a salon owner should care anyway
This part is our reasoning, not something the Municipality said. A recognition built on service quality and customer satisfaction rewards the same things a customer is judging when they leave a Google review: were you consulted before the treatment, was the place clean, was the staff professional. Whatever the official assessment turns out to be, a steady record of real customer feedback is a useful thing to have beside it.
A practical checklist for Dubai salons
- Know your inspection rating. The report says an “A” rating comes first. If you do not know yours, ask your Municipality contact or check your latest inspection paperwork.
- Write down your pre-treatment consultation. A short, consistent set of questions before colouring, treatments or waxing is something the report names as a criterion.
- Keep staff certificates in one folder. Qualifications and certifications are listed in the service-quality area.
- Make cleanliness visible. Sterilisation and tidy waiting areas are listed, and customers notice them too.
- Ask for feedback after every visit, not once a quarter. Ask every customer, not only the ones who looked happy, and never offer a reward for a review.
Where a review card fits
A review card does not help you meet any Model Salon criterion, and we are not suggesting it does. What it solves is a smaller problem: customers who liked the visit but never get round to writing a review because finding your Google page takes too many steps. Our Google Review NFC Card with QR (AED 29 per piece, checked against our live product data) lets a customer tap or scan and land on your review page. For a reception desk or a styling station, the Google Review NFC Stand with QR (AED 59 per piece) keeps it in sight. Hand it over after the visit, say a friendly line such as “if you were happy today, we would love an honest review”, and let the customer decide what to write.
What to do next
Confirm your inspection rating, tidy up your consultation and certificate records, and make asking for feedback part of every checkout. If the Municipality publishes more detail on Model Salon Dubai, that is the source to follow, not summaries like this one.
